Part of the series ‘How I learned to stop worrying and dropped the bomb’.
“How I learned to stop worrying and dropped the bomb” is a series of five paintings united by a single theme.
In the cycle “How I learned to stop worrying and dropped the bomb” the artist strings together a series of everyday slip-ups – “dropped my breakfast,” “spilled the Guinness,” “spilled the borscht,” “dropped the wedding cake onto the pool table” – and pushes them all the way to a final, planetary blunder.
Each painting explores the idea of an irreparable accident, and together they build into a swelling polyphonic tale of how humor slides into tragedy and the banal turns existential.
The Kubrick reference is clear: like “Dr. Strangelove”, this cycle turns apocalypse-anxiety into dark comedy – only here, instead of military generals, the stage is filled with our own daily mess.
The final work, “Dropped the bomb,” is intentionally left unfinished: the yawning blank of the canvas is the only possible ending once the last mistake has been made and there’s no one left to tell the story.
